The American artist Max Hooper Schneider (https://highart.fr/artists/max-hooper-schneider/) was hosted by members of COSA Montpellier
within the chemistry laboratories of ICGM (Institut Charles Gerhardt de Montpellier) to oversee the filming of his creation "Divination Through Decomposition."
The chemists of COSA Montpellier implemented the combustion reaction of mercury thiocyanate, which produced impressive moving shapes resembling a "pharaoh serpent" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dhHpHOgrUI).
Due to the chemical reaction generating highly toxic waste ((CN)2, Hg ...), the experiments were conducted in the protected areas of ICGM within dedicated fume hoods, where the artist set up his scenery depicting the world.
The films, shot by cinematographer Boris Proust under the direction of Max Hooper Schneider, assisted by ESBA-MOCO student Marie Féménias, were displayed on three large screens during the exhibition "Decay in a Free World" at La Panacée, Montpellier.
